So you may be reading this post simply because you stumbled upon it, or you may be reading it because you have received our support letter in the mail; either way, greetings, and thanks for taking a look.
Stephanie and I spent a year teaching English in South Korea in '09. It was through that time spent outside of our "comfort bubble" that God got our attention and started to teach us some big things.
Among these big things was the horrifying reality of modern-day-slavery. Once our eyes were open to this it was painfully hard to not see it everywhere.

Internalizing these realities, and processing them through the lens of an American-upper/middle-class paradigm, was nothing too short of impossible. So we turned to prayer.
Although I have seemingly endless space to elaborate here in blogsville, I won't, but suffice it to say God moved on our prayers and put a vision in our hearts and minds.
We have identified an extreme need for advocacy on this issue. We have even heard directly from State Legislators who have communicated a perceived lack of interest on the part of voters (thereby justifying their own failure to support a particular human-rights bill in Congress).
The compassion is out there; the empathy is out there; the love is out there; the support is out there; we need to harvest it!
We will be targeting college students via free-speech zones on campuses. Equipped with handouts stating statistics/facts/stories we plan on spreading the truth in a loving way. As a side bonus we will be selling Love146 merchandise (see it here) in order to further support the organization and their untiring work for abolition.
God has called us to share the truth with those who are in the dark. As we stated in our letter, college students are an impassioned group, able to make their voice heard (for both good and bad). We want to harness their enthusiasm and their voice - the truth can and will spread, even larger and further than it has.
Logical conclusion: when people know the truth, they will be motivated to act.
- grassroots efforts can have large impacts
- lawmakers will take note and be more likely to act
- public knowledge will progress
- laws will change
- people will move
- people will pray!
- God will hear
- God will have mercy
We are not simply idealists - we have faith in a big God
